Comprehensive analysis of the serum metabolite profile (metabolome) is becoming a popular tool for assessing the physiological state of agricultural poultry.</p> <p>The purpose of this study was to assess the most significant blood metabolites in Arbor Acress broiler chickens and determine their associations with gut microbiome composition and performance indicators.</p> <p>Materials and methods. The analysis included 28 broilers chicken’s groups fed a basal diet and also receiving various feed additives (probiotics, antibiotics, small plant-derived compounds). The metabolite profile of blood serum was determined using commercially available “DiaVetTest” veterinary kits (DIAKON-DS, Russia). The gut microbiome composition was assessed based on high-throughput sequencing method using the MiSeq platform (Illumina Inc., USA).</p> <p>Results. Correlation analysis revealed four statistically significant associations between serum markers and chicken productivity indicators: a positive one in the pair “creatinine – meat productivity” and a negative one in the pairs “urea – weight of inedible carcass part”, “glucose – liver weight” and “cholesterol – slaughter yield”. In turn, comparison of the metabolite profile and the gut microbiome composition showed multiple associations linking the bacterial community with serum concentrations of malondialdehyde, bilirubin, uric acid, and urea.</p> <p>Conclusion. The study results expand the understanding of metabolic indicators for monitoring poultry productivity and also for the first time characterize urea as a performance marker that can be controlled via influences on the chicken gut microbiome.</p>
<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>Обоснование. Полученные результаты развивают представления о метаболических индикаторах, пригодных для мониторинга эффективности режимов содержания и кормления цыплят-бройлеров, а также впервые характеризуют мочевину, как маркер продуктивности, уровень которого может контролироваться через воздействие на кишечный микробиом сельскохозяйственной птицы.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>цыплята-бройлеры</kwd><kwd>метаболом</kwd><kwd>микробиом</kwd><kwd>сельскохозяйственная продуктивность</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>broiler chickens</kwd><kwd>serum metabolome</kwd><kwd>gut microbiome</kwd><kwd>agricultural productivity</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group/></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="en">Andreeva, L.
